Posts: 639 (06/15/07 23:28) Reply Quote More My Recent Posts Message Me Connection Blocking Invite Ignore User's Posts	Tags : None May 5, AC 259 MOTIVATION FOR THIS THREAD The Seven Jewels have been severely devastated by the Lightning Wave, think downtown Baghdad right now. Mars is recovering, but foriegn agents in the cities are being viewed heavily suspicious by natives. The focus of this thread will be centered in Lazuli 7, which suffered a heavy attack from the Lightning Wave. While other nations (The EFF, LGPC, and ICS) Have sent aid to the cities, the Martian Confederation is heavily watching all foriegners. Gemini is also about with it's agents, surveying the attacks and noting what needs to be improved for their weaponry. -------------------------------------- Odeon looked out from his hotel room, noting the destruction in the city. What was once a modern city nestled in a terraformed Martian Crater, Lazuli 7 was now devastated. Smoldering ruins dotted the landscape, and the survivors were horrified at the result. Odeon and the other ICS dignitaries were here in a peacekeeping humanitarian aid, but Odeon was selected for a special reason. His participation in the 4-leaves peace Alliance has led him to be a chief investigator of the Lightning Wave, and this was ground zero. Odeon looked over to Kari Shiro, who was in her own life changes, looking to succeed him as the youngest elected Senator for the open seat of the Sinope Mining colony cluster. He grinned, noting how she had grown since coming into his service four years ago. She was a growing psychic, but her demons were collecting. He was trying his best to help her, but she was withdrawing beyond his aid. He walked over and placed and assuring hand on her shoulder, "Should we go out, the Martian liason has some building for us to survey, including the remnants of the Lightning Doll shot down by an Orbital cannon. The mission of goodwill interlaced with their objective, weighed heavy on her shoulders. The sight of the Seven Jewels attacks had horrified her. So much death, each attack had been worse than the last. She could hear civilians crying for release of pain, demanding justice for their fallen families and soldiers - at least she believed she could hear them. Though it may be Mars, there was still people dying because of this force dwelling it the shadows. Is it all necessary? Worthwhile... In the years, many changes happened. Her powers have grown, every day she could feel it. It was as if her mind was given huge amounts of mint. Even Odeon had been surprised, she knew it at times when he would stare at her, when he would reach out to her, when demonstrating her powers: He doesn't get it kiddo. He'll never understand that pain you have endured- Another voice in her head, mature, coaxing her to relax. This voice was not new, small at first just three years earlier however the rapid growth of her powers also meant the amplification of this voice. But things happaned when she listened to the voice. Gaps in time, in memory - No don't listen to it! Don't hear it, just concentrate on what needs to be done. There were people that needed help here, objectives to complete - a hand on her shoulder and the girl jumps, startled. Odeon grinned at her reassuringly, trying at least: "Should we go out, the Martian liason has some building for us to survey, including the remnants of the Lightning Doll shot down by an Orbital cannon. It should be an interesting sight." She stares at him, her violet eyes distant as if lost in thought. Then she would reply with a faint smile: "Yes. It should be." Pause and Kari tilts her head, curious. "Odeon, is something on your mind?"

Odeon's words trailed off while he felt the intruder in her mind. It was an alien feeling, one only noticible to those who truly knew Kari before her trauma. He knew whatever it was, she suffered great distress. He wished he could help her, but when he tried she withdrew more. "But hey, let's not worry and get out there. It's been too long investigating this crap, and I feel we're on to something." Odeon grinned and walked to the door, motioning Kari to follow.

The Seven Jewels was absolutely devastated. The acrid smell of the burning remnants was a firm reminder as to exactly why he was standing here. He wasn't aware of his exact placement in this whole ordeal, but he had to be in the thick of it. Always. "If you want something done right, do it yourself." grumbled Kusinagi He heard footsteps behind him, they were light, defined, and placed with purpose. Odeon was coming, Kari would soon join. These two were as much of a mystery as his enigmatic role. Trained to trust no one, Kusi felt it unsettling to know that he trusted Odeon from the very beginning. They had arrived around the same time as the other forces and were routed to the area to help clear rubble. Since the terrifying events of three years before, Ikinam had been awarded for his heroism and command prowess. He was now a Vice Admiral, though the rank didn't feel comfortable to him. Instead of one ship now, he had five to oversee. Only his had landed in their designated area, the other four were on perimeter patrol. Meanwhile, his team would be on excavation duty. Standing in front of the mirror in his quarters, he let out a sigh while buttoning up his shirt. Three years and he still wasn't used to uniforms. Earlier, he had an ensign have custom BDUs made and brought to him. Now, he was dressed in the tan combat uniform, ready to take on anything. He exited his quarters and headed for the hangar bay. On his way, he saluted to personnel, a few new faces on board since his promotion. The dropship was still in the process of being refitted, additional equipment that would help them clear the out the city streets. The Savage had also been modified slightly, given emergency shoulder armor complete with flashy yellow lights. He didn't like that idea much, but HIGHCOM didn't pay him for his ideas. Once the changes were complete, he boarded and was off into the city. Looking out the side view, he could see nothing, but fires and rubble. The Lightning Wave had lashed itself across the city and the aftermath was evident. As far as he could see, there was no part of the city left unharmed.

How have you been?" Odeon noticed the faint dim light of the sun, it seemed so close on Mars. He wondered what the light must have looked like on the Earth, to have a full day of sunshine. Living in the Io cluster he was always used to artificial sunlight, which according to those in the know was never as good as real sunlight. Odeon stretched backwards, raising his arms and groaned lightly. He cocked his head aside to crack his neck. He looked at the people picking up rubble and wondered what they would see today. He turned to their escort, and spoke. "Kari is coming. Ignore any surly disposition from her. How is the crowd today, are the EFF here as well?"

Her mood wasn't surly but she did seem distant. The girl's eyes on the people picking up rubble, digging for any remnants of their memories, or worse...loved ones. Corpses did not bother the girl, she had learned quickly war was death - but was so much suffering neccessary. The cry of a small girl caught her attention, hugging on to her mother: "Usa-usa...I want Usa." Kari stared, and suddenly she started walking towards the two. She said not a word to either but had immediately picked through the rubble. A moment later she would unearth an ear, soft and a little dirty. A gentle pull and out come a plush rabbit. "Usa!" The small girl cries, dashing towards her. "Thank you-thank you!" "She'll be fine, she needs hugs." Kari smiles," I'm sure she was scared..." By the then child's mother pulled her from Kari, backing away from her despite what she had done. Kari bowed her head; the gesture had hurt but the discomfort was warrented. Would she have felt the same if her home had been attacked? Without another word, she would return, trotting back to Odeon's side.

The food is better out here too...." Kusinagi takes the cigarette out from behind his ear, packs it on his wrist, and lights it up. Taking a drag he says "Kari, she seems tough enough Odeon...she seems to be in capable hands as well." We have EFF ships on the southern outskirts, five total. One has landed, i'm assuming for relief efforts and four are patrolling the area. He watched Karis' encounter with the small girl with interest "I wonder where we go from here" Kusinagi put his cigarette out on the bottom of his boot and slipped the butt into his back pocket. "These people have enough mess to clean up as it is..."

Something was odd about her attitude, but it was clear she was still right in the head. He smiled, and turned to Kusinagi while he spoke. He nooded, and replied, "We find out who is doing this, and stop them." "Take us to the wreckage. I need to see it. There should be vital clues in its design and construction that can help us identify who this is and what they are capable of." Odeon unscrewed the top of his canteen and downed a gulp of water. He felt the cool liquid rush down his throat. It was a refreshing feeling. Screwing the top back on, he turned to follow thier soldier escort. "Come along, Kari."

He brought it back far enough to avoid the regular ground traffic and waved it to the left where they were temporarily stocking the rubble. Once it was done, the unit returned to followed directions from another ground controller to the next site. Ikinam walked back to the makeshift battalion headquarters on the back of a semi. There, his officers worked diligantly on excavation process. He wiped his brow and took a seat in the nearest open chair. An ensign saw him and sucked up by fetching him a glass of water. Nodding to the younger man, he accepted it and drank.

The Humvee was your standard escort vehicle...heavily armored, stripped out interior, metal seats, and the ever so lovely desert camouflage paint scheme. He walked up the passenger side from the rear and opened both doors as he passed them, not waiting for his passengers to get in before he moved on to the driver side, got in, and started the vehicle. Kusinagi shifted the vehicle in to neutral for a moment and waited for the others to climb in and buckle - up.

He wondered what the EFF would be doing here, but then he rememered the Alliance treaty. It was an interesting compromise, based soley on the 'enemy of my enemy...'. When they approached the vehicle, Odeon stared at it's voracity. He climbed in and cautiously buckled his safety-belt. He looked back to Kary, who he hoped was doing the same. He grinned nervously, and spoke out, "You're going to go very fast, aren't you?"

Posts: 12 (06/23/07 00:42) Reply Quote More My Recent Posts Message Me Connection Blocking Invite Ignore User's Posts	Kusinagi adjusted the rear view mirror, shifted in to reverse, and poked his head between the seats to look through the rear windshield. No worries, i'll let you keep your lunch this time. Unless of course i'm given reason not to.... He eased the Humvee out of the alley and nosed it down the street, shifting in to first, Kusinagi gives it some gas and gently lets off the clutch. I'm not forseeing any unsavory encounters, but just in case. We have istols with spare mags under each of our seats and three standard semi automatic rifles and of course, spare mags, in the back with Kari. We might have some suprises in the bed. I didn't check exactly, but i'm assuming it's a basic recon and survival kit.

The girl wanted something to take her mind of the destruction. The years she had been employed into the ICS, she had seen a lot of terrible things occur, and everytime there was that wish, hope that it could all be stopped. Disembodied wails of the injured pulsed in her head, even to see the promised wreckage would take her mind off the mess. Odeon had asked not to go so fast, and for his sake Kari would not express the interest of going faster in a humvee - this time. "Nothing should happen." Kari says softly, her stare distant as she watched the passing scenery.

The remaining flames were a result of anti-radiation sealant still smoldering against the napalm missiles the Martian Confederation used. Odeon could not believe the mass of the unit, believed to a 'Raindrop' model. "So, this is it? Brilliant. How did you and your boys find it without the Martians knowing? Actually, don't tell me. Somethings should remain secrets."

That's not the whole story of course but it's really not as interesting as it might seem. What matters is that we found it at all right? Kusinagi pulled the jeep in to the looming shadow of the mech and parked. So. Are we looking for anything in particular? Or are we just looking to look? Kusinagi got out of the jeep and pulled a small box from under the seat, closed the front drivers side door and opened the rear drivers side door, taking one of the rifles from its mounting along with the three clips of ammo. Walking to the tail, he lowered the gate and set the boxes and rifle on top. It's a little more than I expected, we've got extra boxes of rifle and pistol ammo. Some standard issue frag grenades, survival kit, binoculars, camo cover for the jeep, and some other odds and ends. He slapped a clip in his sidearm and rifle. The stashed two clips from each in the pockets of his cargo pants. Removing the binoculars from their case, he surveyed the area. Nothing of interest caught his eye. They were alone....for now.

Odeon nodded to his aid, and stepped to the edge of the impact crater, cased by the doll slamming into the Martian soil. He skidded down the incline to the bottom, looking at the massive mobile doll. It was not often that people would get a look like this at a mobile weapon of this magnitude. His eyes scanned the hull, which seemed to glow in an iridescent light not normally seen in mobile suit armor. He smiled, noting its beauty but also remembered how it was a deadly of something that was horrible. Odeon pulled off his backpack, pulling out a diamond drill to collect a core sample of the armor. He looked at the suit and found a nice section to bore. The whining bit ripped into the armor, straining a bit to Odeon's surprise. This hull was built strong. After a small amount of the engine straining, to which Odeon thought that the motor might blow, he reached the end point, and pulled away a core sample. "Now we will know some of their secrets, ones we should know."
